About the Role

We are looking for a French-speaking Chef / Kitchen Helper to join our team. This person will play a key role in food preparation, while also serving as an essential communication link for our French-speaking staff and customers.

This person will play a crucial role in explaining the menu written in French to French-speaking individuals, ensuring they clearly understand the dishes, ingredients, and options available.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook complete meals, individual specialty dishes, and foods including complex sauces, handmade pastas, and meat and poultry
• Plan menus, determine portion sizes, estimate food requirements and costs, and monitor and order supplies
• Schedule and supervise cooks and kitchen helpers while overseeing daily kitchen operations to ensure efficiency
• Train kitchen staff in culinary techniques, safety protocols, and company standards
• Create new recipes and decorative food displays for special events and high-volume service periods
• Maintain detailed records of food, supplies, and equipment
• Ensure all work areas and the kitchen are cleaned and maintained according to health and safety regulations
• Communicate with French-speaking staff to help them understand daily operations, tasks, and restaurant procedures
• Explain the menu, ingredients, and food items in French to staff and French-speaking customers
• Facilitate communication between French and English within the team to ensure smooth, efficient service

Requirements

• Fluency in French and English (spoken and written)
• Experience in a kitchen or restaurant setting (Chef or Kitchen Helper role)
• Knowledge of food preparation, cooking, and presentation techniques
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work well in a fast-paced restaurant environment
• Attention to detail and adherence to food safety and hygiene standards
